MINOT STATE SOFTBALL
DULUTH, Minn. (MSU) – The clutch hits eluded Minot State on Thursday afternoon as the Beaver softball team dropped an NSIC doubleheader, 2-0 and 6-0 at Minnesota Duluth. Abby Lohse and Paige Kellogg had a hit in each game to lead the way for Minot State (21-17 overall, 17-9 NSIC), but the Beavers could not push anything across against the stingy Bulldogs (37-14, 18-8). Minot State is back in action this morning as they will close out the regular season playing on the road against St. Cloud State (27-23, 10-14) in an NSIC doubleheader now scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on the College of Saint Benedict campus.
GAME 1 | Minnesota Duluth 2, Minot State 0
Junior Allison Luoma and senior Lauren Dixon combined to throw a shutout on Thursday as the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs blanked the Minot State Beavers 2-0. Junior Reegan Floyd (8-8) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out six. In the batter’s box, the Beavers were led by senior Brooklyn Morrison, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk. Minot State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Beavers went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fourth, when sophomore Paige Kellogg made it into scoring position with two outs.
GAME 2 | Minnesota Duluth 6, Minot State 0
Senior Lauren Dixon and sophomore Allyssa Williams combined to toss a shutout on Thursday as the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs blanked the Minot State Beavers 6-0. Senior Gabi Dawyduk (9-7) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Minot State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The Beavers got a runner on third in the second when Dawyduk made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Chicago White Sox dropped to 3-22, wasting a two-run lead and stretching their losing streak to a season-high seven with a 6-3 defeat to Minnesota on Thursday as Edouard Julien hit two of the Twins’ five solo home runs. Chicago matched Cincinnati in 2022, Detroit in 2003 and Washington in 1894 as teams that opened 3-22. Baltimore began 2-23 in 1988. Julien and Ryan Jeffers homered off Michael Soroka in a three-run sixth inning, Julien homered again off John Brebbia in the seventh and Carlos Santana and Jose Miranda went deep against Steven Wilson in the eighth. Chicago, off to the worst start in franchise history, has been outscored 141-56 and allowed 38 home runs. Minnesota swept the four-game series, its longest winning streak since winning five straight from last Aug. 3-7. Twins starter Simeon Woods Richardson gave up two runs and seven hits in five-plus innings while fanning six in his second start of the season. RHP Bailey Ober (1-1, 4.91) will face the Los Angeles Angels toiday in the opener of a three-game series at Anaheim. In his last three starts, Ober has allowed just two earned runs in 17 innings.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings traded up twice in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night, jumping one spot to No. 10 for Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy to ensure they didn’t miss out on their most dire need and making a six-spot leap to No. 17 for Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner. The departure of veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency to Atlanta left a void — and an opportunity that Vikings leadership has been strategizing about for two-plus years. McCarthy went 27-1 as a starter on a defense-driven and run-first team that raised questions about the 6-foot-2, 219-pound passer’s potential. He set the program record with a 72.3% completion percentage. Once defenders started to fall off the board, the Vikings struck a deal with Jacksonville by sending their fifth-rounder (No. 167) and third- and fourth-round picks in 2025 to move up from No. 23. Turner was a first-team Associated Press All-American who tied for eighth in the FBS with 10 sacks last season. After letting Danielle Hunter, D.J. Wonnum and Marcus Davenport depart in free agency, the Vikings signed Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel before adding Turner in this rapid restock. The Vikings don’t own any second-day selections.
