MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – Minot State’s pitching led the way Sunday allowing just one run as the Beavers swept an NSIC doubleheader from visiting Bemidji State, 5-1 and 1-0 at the SCHEELS Complex at South Hill. Reegan Floyd struck out five and Kierra Fournier added a scoreless inning of relief in the opener, then Gabi Dawyduk shut out the visiting Beavers in the nightcap, the final home game of the season for Minot State. The Beavers now wrap up the regular season on the road with doubleheaders at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday and at St. Cloud State on Sunday.
GAME 1 | Minot State 5, Bemidji State 1
Senior Brooklyn Morrison collected two extra base hits to help lead the Minot State Beavers over the Bemidji State Beavers 5-1 Sunday. Junior Reegan Floyd (8-7) got the win for Minot State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out five. Sophomore Kierra Fournier also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one. Morrison’s two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a triple, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Paige Kellogg put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Senior Gabi Dawyduk also contributed for the Beavers, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI. The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Dawyduk came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board. The score stayed at 1-1 until the fifth inning, when the Beavers put runs on the scoreboard once again. The Minot State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Kellogg, which brought the Beavers lead to 5-1. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Minot State coasted to the win.
GAME 2 | Minot State 1, Bemidji State 0
Senior Gabi Dawyduk was dealing on Sunday, throwing a four-hit shutout to lead the Minot State Beavers over the Bemidji State Beavers 1-0. Dawyduk (9-6) went the distance for Minot State, giving up four hits, walking none and striking out two. In the batter’s box, the Beavers were led by sophomore Paige Kellogg, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. The Beavers took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to Kellogg’s RBI double with one out.

MINOT STATE BASEBALL
MINOT, ND (MSU) – Javier Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in a 9-2 loss to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Sunday in NSIC action at Corbett Field. Craig Schmich (2-7) got the ball to start for Minot State (13-26 overall, 10-19 NSIC) and took the loss. Tim Carlson was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits. Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Minot State got an RBI single from Gutierrez, scoring Mark Ossanna from third base. The Bulldogs then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the fifth inning, when the Beavers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Gutierrez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which tightened the Bulldogs lead to 3-2. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Minnesota Duluth added six runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.

MINOT STATE TRACK & FIELD
ABERDEEN, S.D. (MSU) – Sunday was Sidra Sadowsky’s day to shine for the Minot State track and field team. Sadowsky clocked a career-best time and broke a seven-year-old record as she won the women’s 1,500 meters at the Dewey Donat Classic hosted by Northern State. Her victory was one of three on the day for the Beavers as Ramon Duran won the men’s 400-meter hurdles and Paulette Dominguez won the women’s 5,000 meters, and her record was one of two for Minot State as Hayleigh Solano broke her own heptathlon record, as well. Sadowsky won the 1,500 in 4 minutes, 43.82 seconds, which shaved .06 seconds off the NCAA Division II school record run by Jana Jones back in 2017 (4:43.88).
Also turning in an NCAA D-II record was Solano who scored 2,672 points in the grueling, seven-event heptathlon to finish 6th at the Dewey Donat Classic and break her own school record of 2,302 points, which she set two weeks earlier. Leading the way for the Minot State men’s team was Duran who won the 400 hurdles in 54.13 seconds on Sunday, while teammates Devontae Daley and Holter Bridwell nearly added a victory each as Daley was 2nd in the men’s 800 meters in 1:55.08 and Bridwell was 2nd in the 5,000 in 17:00.29. While Bridwell was second in the men’s 5K, Dominguez and teammate Nicole Reeves gave the Beavers a one-two finish in the women’s race as Dominguez won in 18.18.76 and Reeves finished 2nd in 18:28.52. The Minot State women also picked up two second-place finishes on the day as De’Andre Cornwall was 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.60 and Bailey Wride was 2nd in the 800 meters in 2:21.50.
Next up for the Minot State track and field teams will be a busy weekend of action as some of the Beavers will be in Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays, while the majority of the Beavers will compete Saturday at the Ron Masanz Classic hosted by Minnesota State Moorhead.

MINOT STATE MENS GOLF
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (MSU) – The Minot State men’s golf team played its best round of the week to finish 9th at the NSIC Championship, which concluded Sunday at the Adams Pointe Golf Club. The Beavers shot a team total of 18-over 306 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 69-over 933 (314-313-306). Chase Gedak led the way for Minot State as he fired an even-par 72 in the final round to maintain his hold on 8th place in the individual standings. Gedak finished with a 54-hole score of 4-over 220 (75-73-72), eight shots off the tournament lead and two strokes out of the top five who each earned NSIC All-Tournament honors. Minnesota State, Mankato swept the tournament titles as Max Brud won the individual crown by one stroke over teammate Ben Laffen as Brud shot a 4-under 212 (69-73-70) for the week, while Brud and Laffen led the way for the Mavericks won also claimed the team title by 23 shots with a team score of 6-under 858 (286-296-276). Zach Hendrickson was next for the Minot State men as he finished 32nd at 17-over 233 (78-81-74), then came Joshua Tu, who tied for 35th at 21-over 237 (78-79-80), Max Karnik, who tied for 41st at 29-over 245 (83-82-80), and Casey Fjeld, who tied for 43rd at 36-over 252 (84-80-88). The NSIC Championship was the final event of the season for the Minot State men’s team. The Minot State women’s golf team now heads to Missouri for their NSIC Championship held April 26-28 at the Paradise Pointe Golf Club.

MINOTAUROS
MINOT, ND (minotauroshockey.com) – After notching a franchise-best nine goals in Game 1 on Friday, the Minot Minotauros, this time, had their hands full with the Austin Bruins in Game 2 on Saturday. Despite a hard-fought contest with back-in-fourth action, the Tauros still came out on top, winning 3-1. The opening period of Game 2 ended scoreless. Minot and Austin had two power-play opportunities each, but neither team could convert. The Tauros led in shots 13-11 heading into the first intermission. Into the middle frame, the close-checking contest remained tied 0-0 until Ian Spencer went forehand, backhand, and shelf on the breakaway to beat Bruins’s tender Trent Wiemken with 3:38 left. Colby Woogk provided the stretch pass to send the forward all alone on the Bruins tender. The goal for Spencer was the third he’s scored in the series. Minot padded their lead to 2-0 with 11:42 left in regulation. Nick Sewecke hammered home a rebound off a soft shot from the point by defenseman Pavol Funtek. Sewecke’s tally was the third he’s notched in the series’ first two games. Austin would split the score to 2-1 with 3:54 remaining as John Hircshfield was credited with the tally for his first of the postseason. Soon after, Austin pulled Wiemken, but unfortunately for the visiting team, Niklas Ketonen scored on the empty net to make it 3-1, giving Minot the victory and a 2-0 series lead. Next, the Tauros head to Austin for Game 3 of the best-of-five series on Friday at the Riverside Arena starting at 7:05 PM CST.

TWINS-TIGERS
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Casey Mize pitched six scoreless innings for his major league win since 2021, and Buddy Kennedy homered and drove in three runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 6-1 on Sunday. Spencer Torkelson had two hits, scored twice and knocked in two runs. Riley Greene scored three times for the Tigers, who improved to 8-3 on the road. Mize (1-0) gave up five hits, walked three and struck out four in his first victory since Aug. 24, 2021, at St. Louis. The top pick in the 2018 amateur draft missed nearly all of the past two seasons because of Tommy John surgery and a back operation. The Twins have lost six of seven and are hitting .195, the second-worst batting average in the big leagues. Minnesota rookie Austin Martin led off the ninth with his first career home run, connecting off Alex Faedo to spoil the shutout. Twins right-hander Louie Varland (0-4) was wild from the start. He walked the first two batters he faced and, after getting a groundout, gave up a single and another walk. Kerry Carpenter’s base hit and Kennedy’s sacrifice fly drove in runs to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Twins RHP Chris Paddack (0-1, 8.36) takes the mound as Minnesota opens a four-game series at home against the White Sox tonight.
