NAHL-ROBERTSON CUP PLAYOFFS
MINOT, ND (NAHL) – The Minotauros controlled play all 60 minutes in their dominant 9-1 win over the Bruins. Niklas Ketonen buried a pair of goals in the first with Ian Spencer making it 3-0 before intermission. In the 2nd, Spencer found his 2nd goal while Nicholas Sewecke also tallied a pair of goals. Trevor Stachowiak, Cayden Casey, and Ty James furthered the lead in the final frame with goals. Austin’s lone goal came from Will Diamond. Brady James kept out 20 of 21 shots faced in the win while Trent Wiemken and Vilgot Holm combined for 34 saves. Game two in the best-of-five series is tonight at Maysa Arena.
BISMARCK, ND (NAHL) – Mathieu Bourgault netted a pair of goals while Klayton Knapp made 30 saves in Bismarck’s game one 5-1 victory over the Wings. Bourgault and Matthew Rafalski both lit the lamp in the opening frame to give Bismarck momentum heading into the 2nd. Zach Reim cut the deficit in half early in the middle frame before Bourgault found the back of the net again. Evan Hunter and Kai Dunits provided more insurance in the 3rd with scores. Adam Dybal kept out 37 shots for Aberdeen in the loss.

MINOT STATE MENS GOLF
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (MSU) – Chase Gedak led the way for the Minot State men’s golf team shooting a 3-over 75 on Friday at the Adams Pointe Golf Club to land in a tie for 12th after the first day of the NSIC Championship. Gedak’s effort led the Beavers to a team total of 26-over 314 as Minot State sits in ninth after the opening 18 holes of play in the 54-hole, three-day tournament. Action continues in Missouri with round two today. While Gedak led the way, teammates Zach Hendrickson and Joshua Tu each carded 6-over 78s on Friday and sit tied for 27th for Minot State. Max Karnik and Casey Fjeld rounded out the scores for the Beavers as Karnik shot an 11-over 83 and is 42nd, while Fjeld is one stroke behind him in 43rd after a 12-over 84. Max Burd of Minnesota State, Mankato and Emmet Hansen of Augustana each shot 3-under 69s on Friday and share the individual tournament lead and sit three shots ahead of the rest of the field. Minnesota State, Mankato leads the team title chase by 11 strokes as the Mavericks turned in a 2-under 286 team score.

UND MENS BASKETBALL
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND) – The North Dakota men’s basketball team has announced the commitment of forward Dariyus Woodson, a Baytown, Texas native, who comes to the team from Tyler Junior College (Texas). Woodson was one of the top shooters for the Apaches last season, shooting 48.7% from the floor and 37.7% from the three-point territory; averaging nearly two makes from downtown per game. He led the team with 14.3 points per game and was third on the team with 4.8 rebounds per game. He also averaged 1.6 assists, .5 steals and .4 blocks per game. He scored in double-figures in 20 games for TJC last season, with a season high 30 coming against Louisiana Knights Post-Grad Academy, and scored 20+ points in six games total. Over the last ten games of the season this past year, he averaged over 18 points per game—averaging 18.0 points in seven games during the month of February and 18.7 points in three games in March. He helped lead the Apaches to a winning season for the first time since the 2019-20 season, with 16 wins the most for the program since 19-20.

TWINS-TIGERS
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rookie Wenceel Pérez hit a go-ahead two-out single in the ninth inning and the Detroit Tigers handed the Minnesota Twins their season-worst fifth straight loss, 5-4 on Friday night.Pérez finished with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored on a frigid night when temperatures hovered in the mid-30s Fahrenheit with a steady breeze. With the game tied at 4-all in the ninth, Twins reliever Caleb Thielbar (0-1) got the first two outs before giving up a single to Parker Meadows. Thielbar then threw wildly on a pickoff attempt, allowing Meadows to take second. Mark Canha was intentionally walked, setting up Pérez, who drove in the decisive run with a sharp single to center. The Twins, who won the AL Central last year, have lost 10 of 13 and fell to 6-12, second-worst in the AL ahead of only the division rival Chicago White Sox.
