Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
The 24th annual Escape to the Lake Adaptive Water Recreation event will be held Sat., June 16, at Nelson Lake Recreation Area near Center, N.D. The event begins with a 10 a.m. registration. Escape to the Lake provides children and adults with physical disabilities the opportunity to water-ski, take a pontoon ride and enjoy a recreational summer day on a North Dakota lake.

Nelson Lake's water is safely heated by the nearby power plant, thus enabling a more comfortable experience for those participants who have varying physical challenges.
Escape to the Lake is open to anyone with a physical disability who is a resident of North Dakota or one of its bordering communities in neighboring states. Each year, between 30 and 60 individuals with disabilities participate in Escape to the Lake, with family members, friends and other caregivers along for the fun.

On-site experts from Texas Adaptive Aquatics provide support and guidance to all water-skiing participants, using adaptive equipment to enhance their experience. Additional on-site support is provided by event founder and organizer NDAD and area groups such as Sporting Chance North Dakota and the Aberdeen (S.D.) Aqua Addicts ski team, which also performs an acrobatic performance ski show during the event. This year's show is set for about 1 p.m.
Participants enjoy a complimentary lunch as well as the camaraderie and friendships that develop during the day or renew from past events.
