USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service weekly crop and weather report...

    FARGO, N.D. - For the week ending May 27th, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

    Topsoil moisture supplies rated 11 percent very short, 26 short, 61 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 17 percent very short, 32 short, 49 adequate, and 2 surplus.

    Field Crops Report

    Soybeans planted was 72 percent, behind 79 last year, but ahead of 61 for the five-year average. Emerged was 20 percent, near 24 last year, and equal to average.

    Spring wheat planted was 91 percent, near 95 last year, but ahead of 83 average. Emerged was 58 percent, behind 74 last year, and near 59 average. Jointed was 3 percent, behind 15 last year.

    Durum wheat planted was 88 percent, near 89 last year, but ahead of 73 average. Emerged was 41 percent, behind 54 last year, and near 43 average. Jointed was 4 percent, behind 12 last year.

    Winter wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 12 poor, 43 fair, 41 good, and 2 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 51 percent, well behind 74 last year.

    Corn planted was 87 percent, behind 92 last year, but near 84 average. Emerged was 34 percent, well behind 62 last year, and behind 46 average.

    Canola planted was 80 percent, behind 86 last year, but ahead of 73 average. Emerged was 29 percent, behind 48 last year and 41 average.

    Oats condition rated 4 percent very poor, 6 poor, 35 fair, 46 good, and 9 excellent. Oats planted was 86 percent, behind 93 last year, but near 85 average. Emerged was 53 percent, well behind 73 last year, and behind 59 average. Jointed was 9 percent, behind 22 last year.

    Barley condition rated 0 percent very poor, 5 poor, 29 fair, 61 good, and 5 excellent. Barley planted was 93 percent, near 95 last year, but ahead of 81 average. Emerged was 65 percent, behind 77 last year, but ahead of 55 average. Jointed was 8 percent, near 10 last year.

    Dry edible peas planted was 82 percent, behind 95 last year. Emerged was 36 percent, well behind 75 last year and 56 average.

    Sunflowers planted was 36 percent, behind 54 last year, and near 37 average.

    Flaxseed planted was 74 percent, near 71 last year, and ahead of 57 average. Emerged was 21 percent, behind 32 last year.

    Potatoes planted was 80 percent, near 79 last year, and ahead of 61 average. Emerged was 12 percent, equal to last year, and near 13 average.

    Dry edible beans planted was 61 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 44 average. Emerged was 5 percent, behind 10 last year.
